Kidney disease affects an estimated 37 million people in the US. Notably, more than 800,000 people have end-stage kidney disease, requiring either maintenance dialysis or a kidney transplant for survival. Kidney failure, also called end-stage renal disease (ESRD), is the last stage of chronic kidney disease. When your kidneys fail, it means they have stopped working well enough for you to survive without dialysis or a kidney transplant. Nearly 100,000 people living with kidney failure are on the waiting list for a kidney transplant, but there are not nearly enough kidneys available for all the people who need them. Most people can live with only one kidney.
Gavin Brown, a native of Athens, GA and an Alumni of Thee Fort Valley State University, suffers from kidney disease. Gavin is currently on the transplant list and hopeful to receive a transplant soon. The healing process of receiving a transplant can be financially straining due to not being able to work, additional medication expenses, additional doctor visits, and possible relocation depending on the transplant location.
With that being said, we proactive measures are in place as we prepare for Gavin’s first fundraiser to help subsidize these essential expenses when the time comes. Gavin is a full-time entrepreneur and having health issues can be daunting, but with your support and donations of this event, you will make a profound difference for him as he continues to fight this struggle of renal failure.
